About the PEACE Center at St. Charles

The Phoenix Emerging Adults Career & Education Center (PEACE) equips young adults who are high school graduates with vocational, career, and life skill development opportunities in a setting that is developmentally appropriate. Programming at the PEACE Center is individualized to each young adult for the purpose of successful and sustainable reintegration into the community. The PEACE Center launched in January of 2024 and is the first of its kind in the nation. 

About the Young Adults at the PEACE Center

PEACE young adults are high school graduates ages 17-20 who have been committed to secure custody of the state of Illinois by the court. They are young adults who wish to receive post-secondary education, and/or career technical education programming are are admitted to the program through an application, interview, and personalized contract agreement.

Highlighted Career Training & Educational Programs

  • Vocational/Career Technical Training
    • NIU's Project Flex, in partnership with International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), is providing personal trainer certification.
    • Technical Manufacturing Association- Emerging adults who complete this online program can earn a certificate as a Certified Manufacturing Associate.
    • Sim log uses simulator based training to provide training and certifications in operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, and excavators. 
    • Victory XR, in partnership with Meta, provides immersive classrooms through virtual reality to prepare students for carpentry, welding, and robotics or as nursing or medical assistants.
    • CORE offers online CTE courses and certification preparation in career fields such as A/V Technician, Communication, Business Management & Administration, Project Management, IT/Application Development, and more.
    • Larry's Barber College will soon be providing a barber certification program at the PEACE Center barber studio.
    • Youthbuild- Construction experience -coming soon!

Visitation

NOTE: Please review IDJJ Visitation Rules and Information before visiting.

On the first visit to any Illinois Youth Center, the visitors will be required to have a photo identification, such as a driver's license, a state identification card, or acceptable documentation of non-US citizen including a current passport, Visa, or Matricula, and documentation that includes their social security numbers if US citizens, and date of birth.

Please have two forms of identification; one should be a photo ID for additional visits.

Visiting hours are on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
