Booker T. Washington Alternative High School
Booker T. Washington Alternative High School is a year-round all-boys school that serves young men ages 13-21 who are residents of IYC Harrisburg. We offer a full high school curriculum using Pearson Connexus format along with supplemental learning activities for all students. We also offer a GED Program for those who qualify. Our school includes a fully staffed Special Education Department to meet individualized needs of students.
Additionally, we have a very active vocational program which includes courses that are based on carpentry skills, custodial maintenance, horticulture, and culinary arts.
Lakeland Community College partners on site with us to offer college level vocational programs for all high school graduates who are interested. High school students are also eligible to be dual credit students and earn college credit as high school Students.
Melva Clarida Memorial Library has shelves and shelves of reading material and hosts a variety of clubs, groups, and monthly author highlights which allow our students to further expand their educational experience.
On site we have a full time Literacy Volunteer of Illinois instructor who oversees a tutoring program during school hours.
Language Live is one of our newer programs. The name explains the content: Language Live, a program to help slower readers gain the proper foothold to move forward academically.
Currently, we have a staff of 24 highly trained and educated professionals and a student body of 30 youth.
