Maya Angelou Alternative High School

Maya Angelou Alternative High School is a year-round girls and boys school that serves youth ages 13-21 who are residents of the State of Illinois.  We offer a full high school curriculum using Pearson Connexus format along with supplemental learning activities for all students.  We also offer a GED Program for those who qualify. Our school includes a fully staffed Special Education Department to meet individualized needs of students.

Additionally, we are starting a robust active vocational program which will include courses that are based on maximizing entrepreneurial skills.

DuPage College, Northwestern University and University of Chicago have partnered with us to offer college level vocational programs for our graduates and all high school students who are interested. High school students are also eligible for dual credit and earn college credit as high school students when applicable.

Our library on site has shelves and shelves of reading material and hosts a variety of reading materials that allow our students to further expand their educational experience through leisure reading as needed.

In addition, on site, we have part-time Literacy Volunteers of Illinois who provide tutoring for students during school hours. Language Live is one of our newer programs and it’s a program to help slower readers gain the proper foothold to move forward academically.

Currently, we have a staff of 10 highly trained and educated professionals with a student body of 20 youth.
